The Boonie Hat or Booney Hat is a wide-brimmed sun hat usually used by the army in hot tropical climates. It is similar in design to a barrel hat, but with a stiffer brim. The later Boonie was called “Hat, Sun” or “Hat, Sun, Hot Weather”, which is still the name of this type of hat. They come in a variety of patterns, such as cotton ripstop or nylon blends.
